Networking for Innovation

Networking for Innovation

A networking event was organized by GIZ, Sida, and the EU on 22 November to bring together stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem in Albania. Beyond networking, the event was designed to encourage the sharing of ideas to better encourage innovation, acceleration, and scale-up of entrepreneurial ideas in Albania. Representatives from business, government, and academia were present, largely representing the “triple helix” of innovation, alongside the international development facilitators. The Economics Department of Epoka University was represented at this event by Dr. Timothy Hagen.

Dr. Hagen shared Epoka’s ongoing collaboration with industry through the student internship program and annual career fair, and Epoka’s interest in deepening collaboration with government and business. For example, this interest is evidenced in Epoka’s role in initiating in the Erasmus+ project proposal, Promoting Graduate Skills and Employability at the Albanian Labor Market: Capacity Building and Development of Albanian HEI’s (PGSEAL).

Other participants in the networking event noted that many resources are available to entrepreneurs and that many opportunities exist to increase outreach and awareness-raising among potential entrepreneurs regarding the resources available. The networking event served to contribute to a mapping of resources available to innovators, brainstorm solutions to the challenges facing innovation and entrepreneurship in Albania, and to support better collaboration towards improving the innovation ecosystem in Albania.
